Epic is the only word to describe the Ride To Conquer Cancer

Many ECC members took part in the 5th annual Ride To Conquer Cancer this weekend. Each of us individually raising at least $2500 before battling Mother Nature all weekend while riding over 200kms. On Saturday we faced torrential rains, followed by suffocating heat on Sunday. ECC joined forces with the great folks from IMAX and raised almost $65,000 for Cancer research at Princess Margaret Hospital. Cumulatively the Ride raised $18.1 Million this year!!! Wow!

Pub Night!

Our next ECC Pub Night is scheduled for 7:30pm on Thursday, June 21 at St. James Gate Pub at 5140 Dundas Street West (just east of Kipling on the north side. Free parking in front and behind, ample cheap Green P parking behind). Come for drinks, or if you want to come early and have dinner please reply and we can make a group reservation. (This is the same location as the pub night in January. Can you believe that it’s been five months since that event?!?!) We’ve got lots to discuss so please do what you can to attend. Jerseys will be distributed to all those who ordered and paid. We may have a couple extra available – please reply via email with your size if you’re interested. If you are unable to attend the pub night to pick up your jersey please reply via email and we’ll arrange an alternative hand-off.

Bike Shop Affiliation

We are currently exploring the pros and cons of affiliating with a bike shop in Etobicoke. The general goals of affiliating are to secure discounts for club members and drive additional business to the shop. We currently have three members looking to purchase new bikes in the $1500 range. Our negotiating power would definitely be strengthened if we can grow this number… so if you’re on the hunt and not super brand sensitive, please reply via email so that we can up the ante and make a deal!

Socks!

Now that we’re into the heart of cycling season who needs new socks? Please reply with your size and quantity if you are interested in ordering some ECC cycling socks. We need a minimum of 72 pairs to make it happen. Order them for your cycling friends and family! (The image to the left is the style we’ll order. The design has not yet been finalized but it will likely be a red sock with white and/or black lettering/art.

The week ahead

A dedicated group ride most mornings around the ECC North Loop starting at 6am. Reply to this email the day before you want to ride to confirm that there will be others out riding. As previously mentioned Saturday is the Vitess Gran Allenamento. A number of ECC riders are participating including all of our usual weekend group ride leaders. If you’d like to lead a ride please reply with the details so we can share it with the group. Sunday (aka Father’s Day) looks like a great day for riding. Please pencil in a 1pm ride leaving the Palace Pier bridge over the Humber. Plan for 90 minutes of social riding covering about 40k.

Training Tip

Coach Paul from posted a fun hill workout to his site last week. Check it out and give it a go next time you’re looking to change up your riding routine.
