Hello riders,

I hope that many of you were able to get out and ride this past weekend, I did and it was wonderful! Looking forward does anyone have any riding plans this week, or this weekend?

Saturday is St. Patrick’s Day, and more importantly in the cycling world, it’s Milan-San Remo! The Sprinters Classic! A one-day race from Milan to San Remo, Italy. For those not familiar with the race it’s long. Really long. The longest professional one day race clocking in at just shy of 300km!!! Yikes.

In honour of this classic race I was thinking we could do our own Milan – San Remo ride. Sort of.

We’ll depart at 9am from San Remo (Bakery at 374 Royal York Road) and head north to Milan (Wineries at 6811 Steeles Avenue West). It’s roughly 25k to get there, and then we can do the return (which is mostly downhill) and finish at San Remo for a coffee, cake, etc.

Who’s with me?

The Toronto Triathlon Festival is a celebration of the ultimate challenge of human endurance and tenacity. On July 22, 2012, for the first time ever, athletes will have the opportunity to experience a quintessentially urban triathlon on the downtown highways of Canada’s largest city.

The ride is along the eastbound Gardiner & northbound Don Valley Parkway.

This morning saw the successful debut of Lance Armstrong, Triathlete at the Ironman 70.3 Panama. He led until the final few miles when multiple Olympic medallist Bevan Docherty ran him down.

Will Lance do for Tri what he did for Le Tour with regards to the US audience?

Lance was rockin’ a 55×11 gearing… any of you ride a 55?

The Globe & Mail has put together an interactive map showing all of the bicycle collisions of the last 25 years. Wow. You can clearly see what roads folks ride, and where we need to make changes to improve road safety. Click here to see the map and read the associated story.

While traffic fatalities overall have declined, according to Toronto Police, data acquired by The Globe and Mail show cycling collisions have remained stubbornly consistent for the past decade.
