From a thread of carbon to a full bike, what sets TIME apart from the competition is the way the bikes are manufactured. They are handmade in France, using the state of the art RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) process.

The Forest City Velodrome is pleased to announce an agreement with Vitess Bicycle Corporation to sponsor the Saturday February 4th Race night at the 138m indoor velodrome in London Ontario.

Julien Papon, a spokesman with Vitess, came to an agreement with the FCV on the Race Sponsorship. “The Vitess brand has rapidly become the benchmark when it comes to delivering a world class cycling experience to a fast growing community of discerning riders, ranging from novice to former professional cyclists” says Papon. He also adds “as passionate cyclists, the need for speed is what we’re all made of, and bicycle racing is the quintessential of high-performance cycling. Vitess has a lot in the works for 2012 and beyond in that regard; and we are absolutely thrilled to start the year with helping FCV’s Rob Good and his team put up such a fantastic event.”

The “Vitess Challenge” is the new name for the event. The Vitess Challenge will have races for all categories during the race program. The top 14 racers will advance into the 99 lap “Winner Take All” Challenge. Events for the race night will include, Points races, Endurance “Scratch Races”, Elimination (Miss & Out) Races. There will also be races for the sprinters. To add some additional drama there will be a gear restriction in place for the evening (81″ gearing) will be mandatory for all racers. Roll out will be held randomly throughout the night.

The first prize in the Vitess Challenge will be a Vitess road frame-set package, valued at $4,000.00: it includes a brand new custom-painted and fitted Vitess full-carbon frame-set. There will numerous prizes that will be drawn at the end of the night for all the racers in attendance also from Vitess.

Racing begins at 7pm with the preliminary events, the Vitess Challenge will begin at 9:20pm on Saturday February 4th.

Adult admission is $10.00, Seniors $5.00, Kids are always FREE.

Directions

The Forest City Velodrome is conveniently located just metres off Highway 401 at the Wellington Street South exit in London, Ontario, Canada. From either Toronto or Windsor, the velodrome is about a 2 hour drive along the 401. It’s less than an hour from Kitchener-Waterloo.

From the 401, take Wellington Road south to the stop lights at Roxborough Road. Turn left on Roxborough. The velodrome is just 250 metres along Roxborough on the right.

The vast array of tire widths available can be confusing. Here are some general guidelines:

21mm
– Ideal for triathlons and time-trials

23mm
– General road racing

23mm – 32mm
– Training and general daily riding

If you have the luxury of changing tires based on weather conditions a thinner tire at regular pressure is best for dry roads. If it’s wet out go with a wider tire at a slightly lower pressure.

The same guideline applies for smooth roads vs rough roads. Smooth roads = thinner tire and higher pressure. Rough roads = wider tire and lower pressure.

Sorry TTC, but the bike is truly the better way. Mayors all over the world realize this and are making changes to their cities to promote cycling. Improved health, safer streets, more liveable cities, more local shopping, reduced travel times, reduced CO2 emissions, better mood, the list goes on and on.

Check out Mayor Ed Lee of San Francisco – he’s moving his city into the future by investing in infrastructure projects that will forever improve the lives of San Franciscans.  Sadly we’re stuck here in Toronto with Mayor Ford wasting money by removing bike lanes, pushing for everyone to get into their gas-guzzling cars, and hiding from Marg Delahunty.

It happens to me almost daily. I’d rather be riding than sitting at my desk. The folks at Kickstand Furniture Limited also faced this dilemma but decided to do something about it. Now they’re pedalling and working. Click the logo below to learn more…
