The 2021 ECC Spring Classics Week is here!

265 km,  metres of climbing, 4 events over 9 days

the goal

Have fun, ride your bike, see some parts of the city you may not have seen before, and meet other ECC members.

01

Ride & Record

Ride the events in order, record each one, post to Strava, and then send the link to your ride to tour@etobicokecycling.com with the subject as “Event # – ????” where # is replaced with the event number, and ???? is replaced with your team name. Nothing more, nothing less, or else they will be automatically deleted.

02

Fun wins, not speed

Speed is not a factor in the overall standings – it’s about completion. And fun!!

03

Get Moving

Four events seem easy, but it’s springtime in Ontario, and the weather can flip from lovely to crappy really quickly, and that can limit your riding days!

04

For The Win!

Teams are awarded one point per event completed per rider. If all members on your team complete an event your team gets one extra point. If you complete all 4 events your team gets one point. If all members on your team complete all 4 events your team gets one point. The team with the most points wins.

THE Stages

STAGE

1

HEART STARTER – 45 KM

A gentle roll along the shore, with epic views of the city, is quickly ruined by unrelenting hills. This route will test your head and your heart. But you’ll finish at Humbertown where Cobs and Second Cup will help ease the pain.

STAGE

2

ROBIN SPARKLES – 40- km

Up to K&T, across Princess Margaret – note the route change – and the down, and up, The Malls, with a little kicker of a climb over to Renforth before retracing our route back to Sanremo. The slight deviation from our standard routing could cost teams if they aren’t paying attention.

3

STAGE

Gambler – 46 km

As with the previous stage, a slight deviation from our common route could cost teams on this one. And construction on the course might force the commissaries to amend the route.

STAGE

4

Ol’ HaiG – 43 km

A day for those who like to casually cruise, or those who like to go fast. The twists and turns along the lakeshore at the end of this ride can mess up your ride – especially if the ActiveTO Quiet Streets are hopping!

STAGE

5

FORD – 58 km

A route that is quickly becoming a favourite of the Morning Rides crew. It’s got some fast stretches, a grinding climb, and lots of turns through the neighbourhoods.

STAGE

6

Courtney is Calling Me – 44 km

A simple route – ride it fast, or slow, it’s your call. But there’s something about Courtney Park onto Convair that just begs you to ride fast. Have fun!

STAGE

7

Fritter Friday Classic – 55 km

You know it. You love it. You got this!

STAGE

8

Fritter Friday Reverse – 55 km

Usually, when you look at something in the mirror and see it in reverse, you still recognize it, and it’s just as great as the original. For some reason that’s not how this works. This just sucks. Enjoy!

STAGE

9

Eldorado – 80

Stage 9 sees us hit our longest ride length of the tour for the first time. But length is only part of the equation on this one. Solo or in a group, this route usually feels shorter and easier. That’s good because you’ve still got five stages and over 200 km to go!

STAGE

10

Explorer x 5 – 50 km

ECC’s most popular route. It’s fast, fun, great for groups, and close to home at all points. Could be beneficial if you’re getting tuckered out at this point of the Tour.

STAGE

11

Jay Brown’s ‘Slaughterhouse’ – 40 km

Jay loves this route, and I think he’s in silent protest against HQ because this didn’t make the schedule for 2020. But lookie here – Slaughterhouse in all it’s glory, with some added suffering just for good measure.

STAGE

12

HHH – 30 km

Hills? High Park? Humber? Yep

STAGE

13

Spitting Distance – 50 km

After two climbing stages, stage 13 sees the peloton stick close to the lake and only manages 69 metres of elevation gain. Should be a speedy stage, one for the fast teams.

STAGE

14

string length  – 80 km

The first forty kilometers of this route is basically uphill so you’d think the second forty would be downhill. They are but don’t feel that way. This stinger of a stage late in the tour will be a good opportunity for the stronger teams to distance themselves from the pack.

STAGE

15

Argentia – 80 km

The first 20 kilometres of this stage are almost flat as we roll along the lake. But then we turn inland and the road goes uphill. At that angle that just sucks the life from your legs and plays games with your head. Your look at your tires to see if they are soft, and check your gears to make sure you’ve got more. Eventually, the route turns back towards the city and things subside.
